Welcome ”au Vieux Moulin”

Le Vieux Moulin de la Maque was formerly a forge. It is situated on the banks of the River Dronne, in the peaceful countryside of the Northern Dordogne, in the Périgord-Limousin Regional Natural Park.

With several hundred yards of river frontage, guests can find many peaceful spots to relax and watch the river go by. For the more active, there is a special court to play the French game of “boule”, a miniature golf course and table tennis. Walkers will find the Mill an ideal base for short strolls or longer expeditions along the river or over the hills.

The River Dronne is classified as a “1st category” (trout) river and fishing licences can be bought locally. On hot days the Dronne is ideal for a cool dip but, for serious swimming, we recommend a visit to the beautiful lake just outside St Saud.

Tennis and horse-riding are also available nearby. There is also a wide selection of restaurants in the surrounding area offering good food at reasonable prices.

The Mill is ideally situated as a base for touring the region. There are several sites of historic interest within a short distance. In addition famous destinations such as Rocamadour, Sarlat, Lascaux caves, St.Emilion and Cognac are all close enough for a comfortable day’s outing.

The mill has two main buildings which are centrally heated. One of these buildings serves as our home. The other building has been internally renovated and converted into two independent holiday homes (Gîte A and Gîte B). They have their own separate entrances and the thick stone walls ensure excellent sound-proofing between the two.

Gîte A     

1 bedroom 2 adults (+ children)

Ground floor: Kitchen/dining room with gas cooker, micro-wave oven, electric toaster, coffee machine, fridge and dehumidifier.

There’s an open fireplace and a solid wooden staircase which leads up to:

First floor: Large bedroom, containing a double bed (140 x 190 cm), double bed/settee, television and DVD player.

Spacious en suite shower room with shower, toilet and washbasin.

Washing machine, iron, ironing board and heated towel rail.

Outside:    Garden furniture, barbecue and private parking.

Tumble dryer shared between both gîtes.

Gîte B

 3 bedrooms 7 adults (+ children)

Terrace, Ground floor (30 m2),

First floor: (75 m2) plus balconies

Ground floor: Large kitchen / dining room. Gas hob, electric oven, microwave, toaster, coffee machine, dish washer, dehumidifier, fridge & freezer.

First floor: Living room with double bed-settee, TV & DVD player.

First bedroom (bed 160 x 200 cm).

Second bedroom  (2 single beds, 90 x 190 cm).

A third bedroom with bunk bed for 3 (double with single on top) & a single bed.

Bathroom with bath, washbasin & WC.

Shower room with shower, washbasin & WC.

Outside: Garden furniture and private parking.

Tumble dryer shared between both gîtes.

Separate covered barbecue area.
